My Journey Into Newborn Photography
Written by: Fatima Abdel Jawad

When I became a mother, my whole world shifted. At the time, I was a refugee in a new country — far away from family, alone, and learning how to build a new life. I wanted to capture my baby’s first moments, to hold onto them somehow. So, I picked up my camera and photographed her myself.
What I discovered was more than just pictures. It was the power of memory. Every tiny detail — her little fingers, her peaceful sleep, her smile — felt like a piece of my heart. That’s when I realized how deeply these images matter to a mother. They aren’t just photos; they’re a way to keep our babies close, even as they grow.
As a journalist, I had always been drawn to storytelling. But with photography, I found a new language — one that spoke of love, motherhood, and the fleeting beauty of new life. I didn’t take any workshops or follow a rigid formula. Instead, I followed my artistic sense, my passion for beauty, and my heart as a mother.
What began with my daughter soon became a mission: to share this gift with every mom I could. In less than a year, I became known as a newborn photographer in my community, and I’ve been doing this with love and dedication for over three years now. Every session feels new, every baby touches me in a unique way. I often say I’m addicted to this feeling — and it’s true. Working with little angels is the most rewarding part of my life.
For me, photography is not just about creating pretty pictures. It’s about creating beauty out of real, tender moments and preserving them for families to treasure forever. It’s about giving mothers the same gift I gave myself — a way to hold onto those early days of love, fragility, and wonder.
This work is more than a profession. It’s part of who I am. And every time I pick up my camera, I’m reminded why I started: to tell stories through images, to celebrate motherhood, and to capture the beauty of life’s first chapters.
